Your future specialisms

(Re) insurance underwriters analyse and appraise the global risks involved in insuring people and their assets. In a nutshell, the job is to choose what risks Chaucer will insure. To get equipped for this, underwriters are trained in specialist risk assessment and pricing skills. You’ll use those skills, passed on from our experienced experts, to determine what the risk involves and then decide how much protection or coverage the client needs, along with how much they should pay for it. You’ll learn everything you need on our programme that’s designed to develop your expertise in every aspect of underwriting. We’ll begin with an initial introduction of the risk by the broker, through to assessment of the coverage needed, up to policy pricing and account management. In doing so, you’ll move around different divisions of the business, learning as you go. You’ll understand how we provide insurance for a wide range of risks, from earthquakes to workplace injuries and reinsurance.
